HIDRO 2023 National Hydrogeology and Water Resources Symposium
On behalf of ALTER, a team of hydrogeological engineers including Osman Düğenci, Elçim Gülbahar Erin, Hüseyin Ertan Yüksel, and our geological engineer Murat Alagöz, participated in the "HIDRO '2023" National Hydrogeology and Water Resources Symposium, organized by Hidroder at Karadeniz Technical University from May 25th to 27th, 2023. Our advisor, Prof. Dr. Fatma Gültekin, served as the Co-Chair of the Symposium, and our advisor Dr. Şükran Açıkel acted as a Session Chair.
During the symposium, Prof. Dr. Fatma Gültekin delivered a presentation titled "Hydrogeochemistry of Groundwater in the Eastern Black Sea Basin" as part of the project "Planning of Groundwater Resources in the Eastern Black Sea Basin." Under our project titled "Preparation of Western Black Sea Basin Groundwater Planning (Hydrogeological Study) Report," conducted within the symposium, we presented applications of the "DRASTIC Sensitivity Analysis" method, developed and approved by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and recommended for use within the scope of the Water Framework Directive, to assess anthropogenic risks on updated groundwater masses.
Our study combined data obtained from the authorities in the basin with field and office-generated data, and it involved the integration of seven separate analyses based on seven hydrogeological parameters conducted on 75 groundwater masses. The results of these analyses were compared with the risk assessment studies conducted in the Western Black Sea Basin, showing an 85% correlation. This study, demonstrating the combined use of direct and indirect methods with accurate data and analysis techniques, was presented by our hydrogeological engineer, Elçim Gülbahar Erin.
