Technical assistance for preparation of the Flood Risk Management Plan for Bosnia and Herzegovina Project Has Been Finalized.
The closing meeting of the “Technical Assistance for Preparation of the Flood Risk Management Plan for Bosnia and Herzegovina Project was held on 22 June 2023 at Hotel Europe, Sarajevo. The meeting concluded with the approval of the flood risk management plans, after a summary presentation of the studies carried out within the scope of the project.
The following gains were achieved during the implementation of the project:
- The status of legal, institutional and financial regulations of the water sector, especially flood protection and previously completed activities were evaluated,
- Previous studies and flood risk management plans were reviewed and developed,
- Water Management Information Systems in Bosnia and Herzegovina has been updated. In addition, project outputs have been integrated into the system.
- The technical capacities of the project stakeholders were increased with the trainings given and the technical visit in Slovenia.
It has been taken into account that the projects proposed within the scope of the project have climate change adaptation, do not cause environmental damage, and also do not lead additional damage to the downstream and upstream areas. Following the determination of measures, these measures were ranked according to the prioritization procedure in accordance with EU directives. Afterwards, the determined measures published for public consultation process and all comments were collected for six months. Flood Management Plans have been prepared for the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republika Srpska and Brcko Distikt, with the final version of the measures and the presentation of all the work done.
As a result of the project, it was deemed appropriate to implement 183 flood measures within a six-year period.
